Insight to guide the world's first EV 'battery state-of-health' EV leasing offer

The Dilemma

As EVs become ever more present, and the vehicle of choice for company leased vehicles, the commercial impact may be significant for car leasing companies if resale values are compromised due to worn-out, damaged or under-performing car batteries. The problem for car leasing companies is that they could potentially lose money leasing EVs.

The Opportunity

As Europe's largest company car leasing company, Ayvens were keen to explore:

  • Is there an opportunity to influence driver behaviours to ensure the condition of the leased vehicle's battery is maintained and in the best state of health?

  • Can Ayvens create the first 'battery state of health' leasing offer?

the challenge

This was Accelerated Answer's first major international assignment and a challenge on many levels. To truly understand and generate genuine insight we had to reach end-users of company EVs and establish a base level of understanding of their knowledge levels and interest/engagement with their vehicles and the subject. Not least, what were their motivation levels to even consider the state of health of their battery?

Next, the survey had to yield reactions to potential solutions and incentives that may influence behaviours that would favour the preservation of their EV's battery.

The brief was to cover 5 European countries all in native languages.

This was an opportunity to demonstrate all the superpowers of Accelerated Answers:

  • Complex and nuanced subject and proposition to explore and communicate

  • 5 languages

  • Blend of in-depth unstructured (qualitative) and structured questions

  • Necessary use of complex stimuli to effectively encapsulate the solutions

  • Challenging analysis task

The Outcomes

  • Approximately 50% saving on overall project cost if compared to the costs of in-depth face-to-face interviews

  • Substantial shortening of timescales. What took us just a few weeks would normally have taken months.

  • Most importantly, insights from the survey yielded many surprises for the commissioning client. In fact, the target end-user audiences perspective was diametrically opposed to the ‘received wisdom’ and prevailing opinion of senior management. It provided the clarity and confidence for senior decision-makers to continue their investment in product development and strategic forward-planning.

  • From a methodological perspective, our Accelerated Answers platform delivered 107 high-quality, in-depth interviews in 2 weeks, including analysis. This included translations.
